1086 - Domesday book lists "Lamintone"
as 240 acres worth £4, with 2 mills worth 24s.
1100 ~ 1200 - All Saints Parish Church built (speculation).
1480 - First saline spring recorded, in front of All Saints Parish
Church.
1784 - Second saline spring discovered by Benjamin Satchwell &
William Abbotts on 14th January, on the corner of Abbott St. & Bath St.
1786 - First commercial saline baths, Abbotts Baths established.
1790 - Third saline spring discovered, Wise's Baths, later known as
Curtis's Baths opposite The Crown Hotel.
1804 - Fourth saline spring discovered, Robbin's Well in Victoria
Terrace.
1806 - Robbin's Well baths opened. The fifth saline spring was
discovered between The Crown Hotel & Clemens St., Reads Baths.
1808 - First building of the "new town" started on the corner of
Regent Street & The Parade (8th October).
Clemens Street laid out.
1809 - Victoria Bridge built.
1810 - William Flavel opened new premises on the corner of The Parade
& Dormer Place.
Sixth saline well discovered on the site of The Royal Pump Rooms.
1811 - The Bedford Hotel opened on the site of HSBC bank, 126 The
Parade.
1812 - A boarding house was built in Clemens Street which was later
converted to The Stoneleigh Hotel. The Stoneleigh Arms is part of the
original hotel.
The Upper Assembly Rooms opened on the south west corner of Regent Street &
The Parade.
1813 - Leamingtons' first theatre opened in Bath Street, later to
become The Chair & Rocket pub, now part of the Jug & Jester pub.
1814 - The Royal Pump Rooms & Gardens opened.
1815 - The Crown Inn established, later to become The Crown Hotel.
Originally built c1808 as a vicarage & then used as a school, before being
converted.
1816 - Seventh saline well discovered, Smart's Marble Baths in
Clemens St.
1817 - Smart's Marble Baths opened in Clemens Street.
1818 - Eighth saline spring discovered near Charlotte St. No baths
were built there.
1819 - The Regent Hotel opened.
1821 - Bridge built next to The Star & Garter in Warwick Place.
1824 - Building started in the Upper Parade north of Warwick Street.
1825 - Christ Church opened at the top of The Parade on 16th October.
1827 - Copps's Royal Hotel opened in the High Street on 21st June.
1829 - Waterloo Place built.
1830 - The Clarendon Hotel opened.
1831 - Town Hall built in High Street.
1832 - Building started on the Warneford Hospital.
1834 - Jephson Gardens laid out.
Euston Place built.
Warneford Hospital opened.
1826 - Congregational Chapel opened in Spencer Street on 21st July.
1838 - Victoria Terrace built.
1847 - Curtis' Baths & Copps's Royal Hotel demolished for the railway
bridge to be built.
1849 - The Parade entrance added to The regent Hotel (originally the
south entrance was the main entrance to the hotel).
1858 - The Bedford Hotel was demolished & the Leamington Priors &
Warwickshire Bank built in it's place.
1864 - St Peter's Church opened on 18th August (building started in
1862).
1878 - The Upper Assembly Rooms converted into shops.
1881 - Warwick & Leamington Tramway opened.
1882 - Building started on the Town Hall on 18th October.
1884 - The current Town Hall opened in The Parade on 18th September.
1886 - Tower added to The Royal Pump Rooms.
1889 - Public swimming baths added to The Royal Pump Rooms.
The Leamington Priors & Warwickshire Bank was taken over by the Birmingham &
Midland Bank (later to be the London & Midland Bank, the Midland Bank,
then HSBC bank.
1902 - Queen Victoria Statue erected.
1905 - Warwick & Leamington Tramway electrified.
1930 - Warwick & Leamington Tramway closed on 16th August
1950 - Tower removed from The Royal Pump Rooms.
1988 - The Royal Priors opened on 24th March.
1998 - Regent Hotel Closed on 27th December
2002 - Royal Priors refurbished.
2003 - Regent Hotel conversion started.
2004 - The Manor House Hotel closed in January to be converted into apartments. |
